Makeup trials with the bride are such an important part of their wedding that they are not to be skimped on!
Being a wedding makeup artist based in London, there are approximately 250,000 weddings across the UK every year with a good percentage of these weddings taking place in London, so there is no shortage of work for a wedding makeup artist.
I tend to focus on the brides that are willing to pay for a quality makeover and attention to detail and love and care. I do not understand a bride who is willing to skimp on their makeup as they could regret this for the rest of their days! Spending so much on the venue, the food, the wedding decorations and the photographer - hiring a makeup artist that is amazing and has a proven track record and excellent makeup reviews is, in my opinion, of paramount importance; and it's worth paying extra for that piece of mind.
The first thing I tell my clients is that they need to do a bit of research into what makeup look they want for their wedding day. They could google ‘wedding makeup looks’, or check out wedding makeup looks on Tiktok or Instagram or buy bridal magazines that have lots of wedding makeup shots in there. Alternatively, they may already have a good idea of what wedding makeup look they want for their big day.
Every bride is different and every bride has a comfortable makeup look; what I mean by this is some brides like very little makeup (more of a natural makeup look) and like to keep it really simple whereas other brides love a much more glamorous and heavier makeup look. All these factors need to be taken into consideration during the bridal makeup trial so that we can perfect as much as we can before the big day draws near. Being a wedding makeup artist it is so important to me to make sure the bride is happy!
Also on the wedding makeup trial I really have to take into consideration the brides skin tones and coloring so we can match foundations and skin tints to perfection.
I often get asked the question, can I do the hair and makeup for five to seven bridesmaids and one bride. The answer is simply NO. The wedding morning can be quite fraught with excitement and anxiety and if just one makeup artist is attempting to do the hair and makeup for 5-7 of the wedding party, each wedding party person would have to be really rushed if hair and makeup were being done together. We all know what that would lead to; rushed makeup results and very unhappy bride and bridesmaids.
It is my strong suggestion that if there is a big bridal party, you hire a makeup artist separately and the hair stylist separately. I work closely with hairstylists that I know do an excellent job and by having a separate makeup artist and hairstylist, this ensures enough time is given to each of the wedding parties, especially the Bride. This will lead to makeup perfection and a very happier brides and bridesmaids!
If there is just one bride and one bridesmaid, well then yes a Makeup artist can also do the hair as clearly there is more time with just two in the wedding party. I think you get the gist!
